Manager as Coach Program

Traditionally, the role of a Manager has been about directing, telling, planning and authority but this is becoming less and less effective given the complex nature of most organisations and the multi-generational workforce. Increasingly, managers are being challenged to bring out the best in their teams and to develop their staff in all real time day to day interactions.

Coaching by its nature is about exploring, developing and asking great questions and listening deeply. It’s about being flexible around process and challenging around outcomes. It brings out the best in people and fosters in each individual a sense of self efficacy through challenging them to find their own solutions to the many and varied complex problems employees face in organisations today.

Our Manager as Coach Program will help you differentiate between managing and coaching and develop your skills in knowing when to lead, when to manage and when to coach.

Managers who are good coaches share these characteristics
• An attitude of helpfulness
• Less need for control
• Empathy in dealing with others
• Openness to personal learning and receiving feedback
• High standards
• A desire to help others develop
• A complex systems theory approach to developing staff that resists black and white thinking
• A belief that most people want to learn.
